Hi! I’m Jessica, a skincare + wellness writer tackling the taboo, embracing the woo, and calling BS on the beauty industry.
A former ghostwriter for Khloé Kardashian, I discovered my passion for the more, ahem, natural end of the beauty spectrum after developing chronic dermatitis, going head-to-head with dermatologists, and healing my own skin naturally — from the inside out and the outside in. I subsequently sought out a certification in Organic Skincare Formulation and began making (and sometimes selling) my own products.
As a writer, I'm known for a few niche things: One, talking about the taboo (orgasm-as-skincare, my IUD mustache, the cool-factor of colonics). Two, an appreciation of all things woo-woo (meditating your way to better skin, breathing your way to better skin, crystal-healing your way to better skin). And three, not being afraid to call out BS in the beauty industry (Glossier's bubble wrap problem, Botox as "self-care," the relationship between glitter and global warming).
My work has appeared in Vogue, New York Magazine’s The Cut, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, SELF, HelloGiggles, Business Insider, The Zoe Report, Fashionista.com, and more — but my proudest moment? When anonymous beauty collective @esteelaundry named me one of its “favorite beauty journalists.”
(FYI: My maiden name is DeFino. You can find my writing on the internet as both Jessica DeFino and Jessica L. Yarbrough.)
